Manistee continues to hit state cuts at Spring Lake Invitational – Manistee News Advocate
SPRING LAKE — Manistee boys swimming continued to turn in state-qualifying times en route to a third-place finish at the Spring Lake Invitational on Saturday.
The Chippewas’ 305 points left them in third behind Spring Lake (507) and Northview (416). Ludington and Fremont finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Manistee coach Corey Van Fleet was pleased with the team’s performance, and excited to see the Chippewas qualify for the state meet in a few more events.
“The boys swam very well. Every boy had at least one career-best swim,” he said. “We now have the (200-yard) medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay, one in the 50-yard free, two in the 100-yard backstroke, one in the 200-yard individual medley and one in the 100-yard butterfly all qualified for the (Michigan High School Athletic Association) D3 state championship meet in March at Calvin University. We have another big weekend coming up at Holland on Saturday.”
The team of Alec Lampen, Drew Mendians, Trevor Adamczak and Seth Thompson hit a state mark in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first with a time of 1:43.14. Those four also hit a state-qualifying time of 1:32.77 in the 200-yard freestyle relay en route to a second-place finish.
Lampen hit two state cuts individually on Saturday, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a 56.76 and taking second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.00.
Thompson won the 100-yard freestyle with a 51.24, and Adamczak placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.79.
